Mandarin Home / Programs / Mandarin Program Why Mandarin? At The Honor Roll School, we are proud to offer a fun and interactive Mandarin program for our preschool students. Learning a second language at a young age is a proven way to boost communication skills, cognitive development, and cultural awareness. We offer two exciting options for Pre-K and transitional kindergarten (TK) students: A daily 45-minute Mandarin enrichment class, where children are introduced to the language through songs, stories, and fun classroom activities A full-day Mandarin bilingual program, where students learn in both English and Mandarin all day with two lead teachers In both programs, children enjoy music, art, games, and cultural celebrations. Teachers use simplified Mandarin characters to make learning easier for young students. Whether your child is getting a first introduction to Mandarin or joining a full-day bilingual class, they will build language skills and confidence while having fun. Frequently Asked Questions Is this Mandarin program suitable for children new to the language? Yes! Both of our Mandarin programs are great for preschoolers, even if they have little or no experience with Mandarin. We use fun games, small group lessons, and hands-on activities to help them learn. They also build their confidence and social skills. These are the best years for learning a new language! Can children keep learning Mandarin after preschool? Yes! Our students can keep learning Mandarin in our private elementary and middle school in Sugar Land. Our goal is to help them become bilingual and learn about the culture in an exciting way. What ages can participate in the program and how often are classes? We offer two options. The first is a daily 45-minute Mandarin enrichment class for children ages 3, 4, and 5. This gives our students daily practice through songs, stories, games, and cultural activities. The second is a full-day Mandarin bilingual program for children ages 3 and 4. This program is led by two teachers who teach in English and Mandarin to support learning in both languages all day. How much does the Mandarin program cost? The enrichment program costs $150 per month/per child. This includes daily lessons that build a strong foundation in language learning and cultural exploration. The bilingual program costs $1500 per year/per child. This includes full-day instruction in both English and Mandarin, taught by two dedicated teachers. Why do you teach simplified Chinese characters instead of traditional ones? Simplified characters are the main writing system in schools and publications in mainland China. They are also used by the United Nations. While we focus on simplified characters, we can adjust for children who have learned traditional characters.
